Obama is just not bigoted enough to be a good president, apparently:

Palin told a rally in Florida she and her spouse, Todd, had always been proud Americans. She also said: "I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America as you and I see America as the greatest source for good in the world."

That's correct - it's not about change, it's not about self-examination or (gasp) the kind of doubt that Michelle Obama may have entertained about the US. It's about unquestioning belief that whatever the USA does is by definition right and good.

It's enough to make you believe in Chomsky. There's much that's great and exceptional about America, but the idea that lack of faith is bad is a dangerous zealotry.

Lest this be just another attack on Americans, I should point out that I don't believe in nationalism of any kind. My own last remnants of nationalism died on the 10th of Novembe, 2001. I had spent all day handing out how-to-vote cards. It was clear to me that Australians would see through the demagoguery of John Howard, his government's demonising of the vulnerable which was already being exposed as being based on lies, and the exploitation of xenophobia in the public. They didn't. He won convincingly.

Patriots are dangerous people. Those who exploit patriots are the most dangerous people.
