I visited the website of a local club,
Ashfield RSL, looking for info on their Latin dancing classes. This is an
RSL club, supposedly a support organisation for men and women who have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force. The splash screen had nothing about serving those who served the country. No "Lest we forget." Nothing even about "serving the community," e.g. by providing affordable nights out and dancing lessons. No, it's a cat lying back with a fistful of cash, below the words "The Lucky Club."
Btw, I just learnt that the song
Blow Up The Pokies (which most Australians will recognize) was apparently w
ritten about a friend of the singer who took his own life after losing a lot of money to a gambling addiction.
